I’m happy to report we are off and running, and have enjoyed the hospitality shown when visiting Chapters, Camps and Encampments. My visit to the Oregon Encampment in Turner, Oregon was enjoyable and PNC Stan Miller was a wonderful host. With thirty some Heroes present, we started with a “Flag Disposal Ceremony”, then with a loud commotion outside the camp, two (2) scraggly individuals were captured and held in the Guardhouse. After investigation, both Brother Recruits Allen A. Kirk and Malcolm Parker sought refuge, but both had many problems satisfying all members of the Encampment, of their ability and heroic deeds required to be accepted as a member of Heroes of ’76. After some helpful prodding and many trips to the “D”, both were finally accepted as a Hero of ‘76. Fun was had by all.
Lady Deanne Miller, and her Camp Followers then successfully initiated into the Order, lady Mrs. Parker (I lost her name).
Following the degree, a wonderful meal prepared by Lady Deanne, was enjoyed by all including the secret formula of baked beans. Amazing what can be done with a little time. Wonderful!
During my travels, especially to bivouacs, it is noticeable that many Heroes do not have a Badge, Medal and/or Tricorn. Uniforms are nice, but not necessary for the event, however when accepted as a member of Heroes of ’76, each should have received a Badge and/or medal and membership card. Please wear them when attending a Heroes function. Also, my recommendation to all Camp Commanders is read your Heroes Manual, especially Chapter V. It is especially important that you become aware of your responsibilities. It has been reported, many camps are not following the approved guidelines in holding Bivouacs. Be mindful of what is considered as a landmark of the Heroes of ’76. Waivers are not normally granted except under unusual circumstances. If problems arise, contact your Area or Regional Representative, or myself. Waivers are not normally granted except under unusual circumstances.
September will be busy with two encampments. California and Washington we are looking forward to visiting with the brethren and their ladies. Also, its been a rumored that an encampment might be in the making in North East New England.
