LEGION OF HONOR
Brother Elliott B. Samuels laid down his working tools on February 7, 2018. He was born on March 19, 1928 in Weehawken, New Jersey. He entered the USNR in an underage enlistment in January 1944. In 1948 he changed services and enlisted in the US Army as a M/Sgt. He went on to attend OCS and finally retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Corps of Engineers. He commanded at the Platoon, Company, Battalion and Post levels and served on the United Nations Staff (Korea). His awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal and the Army Commendation Medal with Palm. He was raised in Dallas Lodge No. 760 on December 30, 1955. He is also a member of Charles W. Anderson Lodge, No. 1413 and Albert Pike Lodge #1169 where he served as Worshipful Master in 2007-2008 and he is a 50 year member. He is a Scottish Rite 33o and in York Rite he is a Chapter Past High Priest, Council Past Thrice Illustrious Master and Allied Masonic Degree Past Sovereign Master. He was formerly a member of the Shrine as well. Brother Elliott was initiated into National Sojourners in Panama Canal Chapter #35 in 1963 and became a Hero of ’76 in George Goethals Camp in 1964. He is an MIP in 15 Chapters. He served as President of Ft Riley#321, Inchon #351, Polaris #369, Saigon #409 and Expeditionary #535. He served as Camp Commander of Wilmi-Do Camp of Inchon #351. Before entering the National Line he served on the Committee of 33 and the Membership Committee. Brother Samuels served as National President 2002-2003 and then served as a Trustee from 2003 to 2011. He received National Sojourners’ highest award, The Legion of Honor in 2011. He is survived by his two sons, Mark Samuels and Keith Samuels both of whom are members of National Sojourners. Funeral arrangements have not been announced but will be posted as soon as they are known. Contributions may be made to the National Sojourners Endowment Fund or the Spirit of America Education Fund at 7942 R Cluny Court, Springfield, Virginia 22153-2810.
The services for PNP Brother Elliott Samuels will be conducted Graveside on Friday, 2 March 2018 at 9:30 AM at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery with full Military Honors. Rabbi Norman Schectman will officiate. Masonic Services will be conducted by Charles W. Anderson # 1413 A.F.&A.M. with R:W: Gene Carnes, Past Grand Master as Funeral Master.
