Blessings Brothers and Heroes.
At the 2015 Annual Convention of National Sojourners I was elected and installed as the National Chaplain for both organizations, National Sojourners and Heroes of ’76. So I felt it would be a good idea to introduce myself. My birth certificate says I am Robert Thomas Davies III, but I prefer Thom (Tom).
I was “raised” in Dry Ridge Lodge in 1982. I was initiated into Kentucky Chapter #134 in 1984 and into Daniel Boone Camp 20 August 1988. I am a York Rite Mason from the Fort Knox area, Vine Grove and Elizabethtown, Kentucky. In December 1989 I crossed the “hot sands” at Yaarab Shrine Temple, Atlanta, Georgia. I am an affiliate member of Alee Shrine Temple in Savannah, Georgia. Currently I am past president of Clarence H. Cohen Chapter #162 and Commander of General Oglethorpe Camp. I am a past president of the Augusta Shrine Club (2016) and Roadrunner President (3 years). Just recently I joined the Scottish Rite in the Valley of Augusta.
I grew up in the Methodist Church. My parents were both military, my father a lifer, thirty-one and a half years, in the Marines and my mother a veteran of the Navy. My sisters are both married to vets. In 1982 I was ordained an Elder in the Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church. In 1983 I was commissioned a Chaplain (1LT) in 100th Div (TNG). I retired in January 2011 from both the Army and the South Georgia Annual Conference, with 27 years and 35 years, respectively. As a chaplain you can well imagine all the things I was called and addressed by. I will answer to just about anything, including “hey you, preacher man.”
My bride and I met in college, at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. We married in 1974 between graduation and my entering Emory University, Candler School of Theology. We have no children so we are now able to be globe-trotting cruisers.
I am here to support not only the Organizations but more importantly the Brothers and Heroes in anyway I can. If you think I can be of assistance to you and your family just let me know. Contact me thru or National HQ at 703-765-5000 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Even though I live in the home of the Masters I do not have any pull as far as tickets and passes are concerned.
The Lord bless you and keep you,
The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you,
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.
